Reflection: React to your peers’ ideas (be specific) and the meaning you all constructed together.
One of the big ideas that we explored a lot in our discussion was how our society as a whole has responded to this pandemic. We talked about big social change, like the Black Lives Matter movement gaining a lot of momentum all over the country, and how those things were trying to bring us together. We also touched on people becoming more aware of division, for example our current political climate being so polarized and also class division. This made us realize that there is a lot of change going on underneath the umbrella of the Covid-19 pandemic. Since we feel like we are almost losing control of some of the small things in our society, we have turned our attention to the bigger picture and the change we can make if we band together. Like Levi said in our discussion, “At least we are doing something.” We have realized that we have the power to change our society and I think this pandemic is making us realize what a privilege that is. On the other hand, like Kristina said, “We are never going to be fully unified.” Even though there are a lot of things that we are all fighting for and going through, there will always be disagreement. In the end, I think we came to the realization that one of the biggest lessons that encompasses all of this is that people are becoming more aware of things outside themselves. We have hope that this could lead to real change in the future. |
