Reflection:
During this project, I learned a lot about composition of shots and what makes a film look professional. Learning this gave me a new perspective on what a film can look like. This made it much easier to convey a lot of information in a short amount of time. I also learned a little more about editing and what makes good audio. All of these skills will be very helpful in the future. Throughout this project, the 21st century skill that I used the most was problem solving. When we were designing our settlements there were a lot of different variables and problems that we had to think about. One thing that used problem solving the most on was figuring out how to get gravity. We had designed more of settlement when we realized that, when you are using centripetal force, there is less ‘gravity’ the closer you get to the center of the settlement. I had to come up with a lot of different ways to fix this problem and ended up coming up with a solution that I am proud of. In this project, I think that using a little more communication would have really helped our group work better together. Me and one other person in my group really took the lead in our group. This meant that we were the ones kind of getting our group going, but it turned out to also mean that we were always having to tell the other members of our group what to do. If I had used better communication and let the rest of my group know that they needed to take initiative and find things to do, we would have been able to work more effectively. In the future this is probably a really good skill to utilize in group projects because it makes groups much more productive and the outcomes more professional. |
One thing that you definitely have to think about when you are designing something to go into space is gravity. A way to simulate this is to use circular motion and torque. This is essential to use for any space crafts that will have people living in them permanently instead of just a short amount of time. Something that you also have to think about when simulating gravity in space is the center of gravity. This is important because, if you know the center of gravity, you will know where the point that the craft should rotate around. If you do not know the center of gravity, the rotation will be offset. Another physics concept that can be applied in space is Newton’s first law. When you are inside Earth’s atmosphere, this law applies but there is always gravity and air resistance that are outside forces that affect objects motion. In space you do not have this problem because it is a vacuum. This means that once something starts moving, it will continue in that same motion forever unless it hits something. This is very helpful when you need something in space to move the same way forever because there are no forces that will affect that motion. Newton’s 3rd law also can apply in space. If a person were to push off an object, they would move in one direction and that force would make the other object move in the opposite direction because it is the opposite reaction of the force of the person.
